I’ve always marveled at the colors of a sunset. Orange, red, pink and even purple hues light up the sky in a brilliance of color! Oh, our Creator is artistic, isn’t He? I wanted to capture that same look using the Bethlehem Edgelits to create a skyline.
There’s lots of sponging involved. None of it is difficult, in fact, I find sponging therapeutic! I started with sponging Flirty Flamingo ink on the entire layer of Whisper White cardstock. It’s important to have a different wedge of sponge for each color you’ll be using so you don’t muddy up the appearance.
I then sponged on Rich Razzleberry and Fresh Fig. You can see by the pictures that I concentrated the lighter pink tones over the city and darker tones further near the top.
A layer of Basic Black ink tops off the top edge creating a dramatic lead into the black card base.
I die cut the star from Gold Glimmer Paper and added a strip along the right side of the card base. I can’t resist sparkle, especially during the holidays! The Bethlehem Edgelits’ are detailed dies designed specifically for overlapped for a beautiful three-dimensional look.

Blending Made Easy
Create images that look professionally colored with the new Stampin’ Blends. These alcohol-based markers are double-sided allowing you to choose the brush or fine-point tip. Each color has a light and dark shade and are available individually or as a combo pack. The separate Color Lifter will allow you to reduce ink coverage to create even deeper shading. Beautiful card. I’m thinking of doing this with a bluish sky and silver glitter star. What blues would you suggest?
Hi Karen! This card in blue would be gorgeous. You will need a few colors to get the variation of tones like I have. Start with Night of Navy as your darkest then move to Island Indigo, Marina Mist and Soft Sky. I would even mix in a little Pink Pirouette or Wisteria Wonder for a beautiful sunset tone. You’ll need to experiment so create numerous backgrounds and see what appeals to you the most. The technique is not difficult, just time consuming.
