A few days ago I sat down and updated my Christmas shopping list. I’ve got a horrible habit of buying without crossing things off the list so this year I’ve vowed to do better. I’ve got several friends and family members on my list that I want to make a handmade gift. Jen is one of those friends. I created this box and note cards with her in mind. I got the original box idea from a member of my Hawaii Ink team, Beverly Messerschmidt. I tweaked her measurements just a bit but the overall idea is hers. Since I plan on making more of these gift sets I thought you might like the instructions so you can make a few yourself.
I’ve included pictures of the box and cards below along with the cutting dimensions. Be sure to scroll down to view them along with a complete supply list.
I’ve also included a personal note that I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read.

On a Personal Note
With full transparency I wanted to share with you that I will be having another surgery on Tuesday, November 28th. This isn’t life threatening, but will be life changing. I have suffered with Ulcerative Colitis for many years. I’m hopeful that this surgery will remedy my problems with this disease. This will require several days of hospitalization and then 6-8 weeks of recovery at home. During this time I will have several people working to assist me to continue operating Lisa’s Stamp Studio as you’ve come to know it. I’ve also been working diligently designing, photographing, filming, editing and scheduling upcoming blog posts during my recovery so you can remain inspired. Despite all my planning, there may be days where I’m unable to respond to emails and comments as promptly as I have in the past. Your patience and continued support is most appreciated during this time.

Hi Lisa,
Since watching your video I have added all the cutting dimensions into my crafting reference book. Whilst I was doing this, I was wondering whether there was a way that the reinforced sides could be cut out with the base. I worked out that if the card stock at the beginning measured 5 1/4 x 8 3/4″ then the short edges would be scored at 3/4″ as you stated but then the long sides would be scored at 3/4″ and 1 1/2″. This would mean that there would be a small square to cut away from each corner but it would leave a piece measuring 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ (which is scored) to be turned inwards and glued to reinforce the ends of the box. Your video was so inspiring this is the first time I have tried to adapt someones project (especially a box) to try and make something simpler in the making of the project. I hope you don’t mind me telling you this. Love your videos always, Lorraine. :O)
Hi Lorraine! Your idea is a brilliant one! Of course there are always better ways. I just found cutting two pieces, with less scoring worked better for me. But, as we both know, the best part of being a crafter is that you can customize ideas to fit your needs best. THANK YOU for sharing this tip. I’m certain your comment will help others!
Lisa, I love the note cards and box. Will definitely be making some, maybe not for Christmas but for another holiday or just in general when I have time. I’m thinking autumn leaves would be beautiful as well.
Good luck with your surgery. Take whatever time is needed to heal. Prayers are with you.
Hi Barbara! Thanks for stopping by. The note cards and box are great year round gifts and I’m so glad you found the idea helpful. Thanks, too, for your kind words and prayers about my upcoming surgery.
