Spotlight on Swallowtail

The detail of this butterfly is amazing!  There are lots of ways to color in an image besides markers.  Here's a few: watercolor with your Aqua Painter or Blender Pen, use daubers or sponges and of course, today's way; Spotlighting.  These large, detailed images look stunning with just a spot or two colored in.  Here's how I made this card:

  1. Stamp two images on cardstock using Jet Black Staz On ink. I love this ink since it won't bleed and it dries quickly.  Try and stamp the image on both pieces of cardstock in same direction, placement, etc.  This will eliminate you having to trim some of your completed work.
  2. Color one of the images in using a marker.  Since it's all one color I simply outlined the butterfly and colored it in – what I call "kid friendly style".  Nice and easy!
  3. Using a circle punch, punch out an area and adhere the colored area to the black and white image. Be careful to line it up perfectly.  I recommend punching one at a time and adhering them so you don't "lose your place".  I mistakenly punched all four at once and had a dickens of a time finding "where they went", but I eventually did.
  • Tip- don't throw away the 'negative' black and white, punched image.  You can stamp another one, color that one in and create a second card and so on.  Lots of fun!
