As a kid my grandmother made every holiday special. She was like "Martha Stewart" back in the day. She sewed all our table runners for holiday parties, she cooked like nobody's business (and without a recipe) and she could craft! She's the reason I fell in love with crafting.
Halloween isn't enjoyed by some people but I have fond memories thanks to my grandmother. She made our costumes – nothing scary was permitted. I remember being an angel, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and a bride.
"Back in the day", you knew your neighbors and walking around the neighborhood trick or treating was safe. There was no such thing as inspecting your candy stash when you got home. There was no worry about strangers. Times were simpler then.
We also carved pumpkins every year. She was a pro at scrapping out the messy 'guts' and she baked the pumpkin seeds perfectly – salty but not too salty.
My grandmother went home to be with the Lord many years ago but I still miss her. She was (and still is) our family's icon. She instilled the importance of tradition at holidays and she made us promise to carry on what she started. And we have.
Here's to those fond childhood memories of carving out some fun!

Here are a few creative card tips:
- Stamp on designer paper for a fun, textured look.
- Alternate inking method: I inked the pumpkin image in Tangelo Twist then used a Q-tip to remove the color from the stem. I carefully inked the stem in the Wild Wasabi ink pad.
- When using dark cardstock use the Whisper White ink pad to create your background images.
- If you think your card needs an accessory and you don't have the "right one" on hand, remember that ribbon, Baker's Twine, burlap and sequins ALWAYS WORK!
If you place an online order between now and September 20th you will receive these two cards PLUS the two patterns to recreate them. My patterns are not PDF's but hard copies with directions. More details under the Creative Creases tab!

My “back in the day”….going to the one neighbor’s house for homemade caramel apples! They were the best! It is too bad we cant give out homemade treats anymore – love your card.
Mary, that sounds sooooo yummy! Those were the ‘good ole days, huh? I sure miss those safer, simpler times.
