It's May Day!

  May Day lei

In Hawaii, May Day is also known as Lei Day, and it is normally set aside as a day to celebrate island culture and the culture of the Native Hawaiians in particular. Invented by poet and local newspaper columnist Eric Kosciuszko in the 1920s, it has since been adopted by state and local government, as well as local residents, and has long been celebrated as a spring holiday.

Gina, aka Boo, celebrated May Day's while we lived in Hawaii. I remember fondly watching her dance at her elementary school's celebration with a hoku lei placed gingerly on her head.  Because Hawaii was home for us during Gina's first childhood memories it holds a special place in our hearts.  We're getting excited about our upcoming Stampin' Up! Incentive trip.

With the beach and island on my mind I wanted to share another retiring stamp set with you; By The Seashore.  Please forgive the poor photo quality. I took these years ago.  I'm grateful my photography skills have improved over the years.

July card class 013

I used Crumb Cake, Island Indigo and Pool Party for the colors on this card.  I fussy cut the starfish and added some Linen Thread for a bit of additional texture.

SAM_0586

This card uses Pool Party and Chocolate Chip along with some Baker's Twine and a retired Buttons Embosslit.

Although some of these products retired some time ago, this stamp set is still available for a little while longer.

Take a look at the retired list by CLICKING HERE.  Remember that accessories are only sold while supplies last. Items with an 'x' in the far right column are already sold out.  Stamp sets on the retired list are guaranteed available but only until May 26th when they, too, will be 'while supplies last'.
