It's a new sketch challenge today. Today's card is a from Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #284. Here's their sketch.
It doesn't look like much, does it? That's because this challenge allows you to use either a background or foreground as the focal point.
Well, easier said than done – at least for me. I am notorious for providing texture in the background of my card. This often times is all I need. I could add a simple greeting and be done. But, just like a pretty new blouse, you need to add the right accessories.
I used the new Holiday Catalog stamp set "Jolly Christmas". I had to have this set because of the reindeer. Isn't it beautiful…and such a nostalgic Christmas image.
The card wasn't difficult, just a bit time consuming. I sponged the Whisper White background with a combination of ink from the Smoky Slate and Pool Party ink pads. I used small circular motions to create a soft look and was careful not to cover too much of the Pool Party ink that I used first.
Even though I loved the background it 'screamed' more! I added snowflakes with Whisper White ink and added White Embossing Powder and heat set them so they'd provide some added texture.
I also heat embossed the reindeer and yes….I did fussy cut that beautiful image. I couldn't resist!
The rhinestone collar on my reindeer lends the perfect touch to this subtle card and really plays up the sparkle in the new glitter ribbon. Don't miss this new ribbon in the Holiday Catalog. It comes in a "combo package" with both gold and white.
This card is one of those "special cards" and I think my Mom will love it. I just can't decide whether I should give it to her to use or mail it to her at Christmas.
