September is coming to an end and within a few weeks we'll have a neighborhood filled with kids wearing fun costumes arriving at our house to trick or treat.

This time every year I take a few minutes and write about our Halloween tradition.  Bob the Builder, Boo and I have lived in this home for 15 years.  That's 15 Halloweens.  We've done the same thing every year.  Florida weather is always beautiful on Halloween so we set up a small table and a few lawn chairs in the driveway.  It's my job to get the Halloween candy and I fill the biggest bowl we own until it's overflowing.  I don't give out the cheap kind - I give away the 'hard stuff' – CHOCOLATE!  Every year I empty that bowl and have to refill it!

The little ones don't trick or treat alone, like I used to when I was young.  Bob the Builder and I enjoy this night to mingle with the neighborhood kids and their parents.   Our Halloween tradition provides a time to reconnect and provides a safe environment the kids.

Last year I hosted our first annual Halloween Block Party.  Since many of our neighbors sit outside to pass out candy anyways I thought this would be a great way to get to know one another better.  It turned out bigger and better than I had expected!  Several of the neighbors wheeled their grills over to our corner driveway.  Everyone brought something to share – side dishes, drinks and desserts. Each family brought their own food to grill.  Collectively we had plenty of tables and chairs and plenty of food!  We also had a huge 'one stop shop' for our trick or treaters!

I got to meet my neighbor's grandchildren who had come to trick or treat in the neighborhood. I finally learned what my neighbor, Scott, did for a living.  I enjoyed hearing about another neighbor's recent trip.  In fact, I got to know all my neighbors better!

The second annual Halloween Block Party plans are underway.  This year we expect double the amount of people to join in!

Don't forget to download today's free project tutorial for this Halloween card.  And, while you're at it, pick up a few bags of the "hard stuff" for your neighborhood kids this year.  ((smile))
