My favorite class in school was art. I know, no surprise.
I wanted to finish high school and attend the Art Institute of Chicago and major in interior design. But, like lots of families in the 1970's my parents wouldn't have been able to afford to send me. Student loans 'back then' were rare. Instead, I ended up perusing a job in the same office that I had worked during high school. It wasn't art related.
I started working full time in a sizable insurance agency doing clerical work. I knew that wanted a career so my boss encouraged me to attend licensing classes. Two years later I had my insurance broker's license in automobile, homeowners, commercial, life, health and surety. Yes – can you believe it? I was an insurance broker…
…for 18 1/2 years!
As an insurance broker I provided a pricey necessity, and that's why no one "liked me". Despite that, I loved my job but I loved art more.
Fast forward to September 28, 1998.
That's the day that I signed up to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. I was surrounded by paper, ink, stamps and a few embellishments. I was in my "happy place" and I thought "can I make this into a second career?".
In 2 1/2 weeks I will celebrate my 18th year as a demonstrator! Those 18 years have been wonderful! Bob the Builder, Boo and I have enjoyed many incentive trips, traveling all over the world. I've met amazing people, some of whom have become dear friends. I still love paper, ink and stamps except now I have lots more embellishments than I did 18 years ago!
