I thought we could all use a little bit of spring today. Aren’t these birdhouses adorable? This image is part of the Flying Home stamp set (page 41 of the Occasions Catalog) and would make a great get well, welcome to your new home or baby card.  Take a look at all the images in this set (click on the image below in the supply list) and I think you’ll agree that they will make great cards for thinking of you and ‘hello’, too!  Use markers, watercolor pencils, Stampin’ Blends or other watercolor mediums and you’ll have a bright, cheerful card to send.

I’ve included written instructions below for those of you using a mobile device. I also have a free PDF tutorial available for those that would like to download and save this project for a later day.

  • Whisper White (layer): 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4”
  • Soft Sky (layer): 4” X 5-1/4”
  • Smoky Slate (layer): 3-5/8″ x 2-7/8″
  • Gingham Ribbon: 6” and 12”

Instructions:

  1. Stamp the greeting using Memento ink in the mid-lower right corner of the Soft Sky layer.
  2. Adhere the raw ends of the 6” piece of ribbon to the Soft Sky layer, approximately 1 ¼” from the bottom edge. Lay the 12” piece of ribbon under the 6” piece. Tie in bow.
  3. Adhere the Soft Sky layer to the card base using Dimensionals.
  4. Using the Aqua Painter and Soft Sky ink refill lightly add small streaks of color to resemble a sky to the white layer. Place a few drops of Soft Sky ink on a clear block or plate. Add a drop of water from the Aqua Painter to water down the ink. Let dry completely before proceeding to the next step.
  5. Stamp the bird house image on the white layer using Memento ink. Be sure to stamp the image so the poles will reach the bottom of the white layer as shown.
  6. Color in the image as shown using the Stampin’ Blends.
  7. Adhere the white layer to the Smoky Slate layer. Adhere the layers to the center of the card base using Dimensionals.
  8. Add Wink of Stella in the white areas of the sky.
