I set out on a mission to create a quick and easy Christmas card without compromising on a more elegant look. Ta Da!! An Elegant DIY Christmas Greeting Card to the rescue!!
Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. For all 28 years Bob the Builder and I have been married we have gone all out on decorations. Yes, I’m one of those crazy Christmas folks that put up numerous trees (I think we had 7 last year) and we’re knee deep into Hallmark Christmas movies. We’ve had a holiday tradition of decorating on Black Friday since Boo was born. This year, the decorations are going up a bit earlier.
We are attending Stampin’ Up!’s 30th anniversary “OnStage” convention event in Orlando for 5 days in early November. After a short return home we will be turning around and heading to Las Vegas where will spend Thanksgiving for a family reunion. We can hardly wait for the hoopla to begin!
And while the excitement of our impending trip has me a bit distracted, I’ve been working on designing our Christmas cards. With our busy holiday schedule, I knew I needed a quick, elegant Christmas card. Since I’m totally enamored with the stag in the Detailed Deer Thinlits I thought of the Dashing Deer Bundle. Out of that need for an elegant quick Christmas card, this card was born. Check out the video tutorial below.
This card measures 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ when folded and although smaller than my typical Christmas card, it will allow me to make more since I’ve cut the designer paper 4″ x 4″, providing me with enough for 16 cards from one sheet of 12″ x 12″ designer paper. But choosing WHICH designer paper is daunting. All the papers in the Joyous Noel Designer Paper have an elegant seasonal design with copper foil.
Not only did I die cut the deer, I also embossed it using the Swirls and Curls Embossing Folder for added texture. I used a combination of Mini Dimensionals and liquid glue to adhere it – both of which I’ll provide tips about in today’s video. And the greeting – it’s just a portion of one of the stamps. I’ll provide another tip on using a few words to create custom greetings for your cards.

I heard or read that there is extra postage on a 4×4 card. Is that true? Thanks
Hi Karen! I’m in the U.S. and there is no additional postage required. I place these 4×4 cards into a Stampin’ Up! medium size envelope (A2) and have never had a problem. Hope that helps.
