Are you looking for budget friendly gift packaging ideas? I’ve got a DIY gift bag & matching tag tutorial that is quick and you’ll love being able to customize to your liking!

Gift bags are at a premium this time of year and for good reason. There’s no faster way to wrap a gift than to place it in a gift bag. One reason I love gift bags is they are a gift in themselves, especially if you make your own!

I purchased a dozen of these white handle gift bags at my local dollar store. I cut up scraps of designer series paper into varying sizes of squares (dimensions below!), cut them in half diagonally and adhered them to the gift bag to form a tree. That diagonal cut will provide you with enough triangles to make 2 gift bags. Talk about easy! And, this is a craft the kids can assemble for you. Get the pieces ready, give them adhesive or glue and let them decorate the gift bags for teachers, bus drivers and friends.

Creating your own gift bag tag is equally as easy! The Everyday Label Punch makes a quick tag and add the “to/from” using the Snowflake Sentiments stamp set in coordinating Shaded Spruce ink. I finished it with the beautiful Shaded Spruce Metallic Ribbon which is part of a combo pack (annual catalog page 201).

A small silver star was created using the Starlight Thinlits to top my tree. A star punch or a handmade star the kids create would be equally as easy.

I’ve included a video quick video tutorial below along with the cutting dimensions for the squares and the supplies I used.
