Easy Card Making Technique Details
Household masking tape plus your favorite color ink pads are all this technique requires to make fun backgrounds. This random and imperfect background is perfect for bold images or heat embossed designs.
This technique provides unexpected results since each layer of color applied will be different from the row above it. Experiment with colors, graduated shades and even rainbow tones. The possibilities are endless!
Cutting Dimensions
- Basic Black cardstock base is cut 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
- Whisper White cardstock is cut 4″ x 4″
Sparkled and Embossed!
I’ve noted this in blog posts before and I’ll reiterate it again – capturing glitter, shine and sparkle are near impossible in a photo . Trust me when I tell you that the Shimmer Black Embossing Powder used for the dandelion image below is stunning on this background technique! Don’t miss the video for tips about using this powder for optimum results.
Skyline Technique
If you have a specific image in mind, consider using rows of specific colors. Here I’ve used Purple Posy for the sky, Balmy Blue for the horizon and Pear Pizzazz for the grassy area. I used the Winter Woods stamp set which is ON SALE for 15% off during a 24 hour sale! CLICK HERE for details!
The card below has been varied in two ways; the depth of the color and the vellum layer. To achieve a muted look, ink up the masking tape and ‘stamp off’ one layer of ink on scratch paper to reduce the shade before applying it to the cardstock.
Cutting Dimensions
- Basic Black cardstock base is cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
- Basic Black cardstock for the image layer is cut 3 1/8″ x 4 5/8″
- Whisper White cardstock is cut 3″ x 4 1/2″
- Purple Posy cardstock layer or vellum ar cut 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
