Easy Gift Card Holder Details

Although I’ve used the beautiful Copper Dotted Treat Bags (page 173 of the annual catalog), any bag can be used. Aren’t these treat bags pretty – especially for the holidays but also consider using them for party favorites for birthdays, showers and weddings.

The Copper Dotted Treat Bags include 10 to a package for only $5.50. Both economical and pretty! I cut off the top of the bag to create an even edge for this project then scored 2 3/4″ from the bottom.

Once you fold the bag and create the belly band (don’t miss the important tips about securing this band in the video!), you’ll have two pockets. The top pocket (previously in the inside of the bag) holds a piece of cardstock perfect for holding your greeting. The lower pocket holds your gift card securely. Plus the entire finished project fits into a medium sized envelope!

Metallics are immensely popular right now and especially fun at the holidays. The Brightly Gleaming Foil Elements include laser cut images for stars, sprigs and ornaments. They’ll embellish any project in minutes!

Don’t forget the ribbon! The Copper Trim I used on this project has a fun mesh finish which allows the fibers to be expanded for a no-frills look. Watch the video to see it in action!

Alternate Gift Card Holder Idea

It seems the vast majority of those on my gift list this year want gift cards. This holder comes together so quickly I decided to create another using the large star from the Brightly Gleaming Foil Elements.

You might also notice that the designer paper belly band on this holder is slightly wider. Be sure you watch the video for important tips about adjusting the width.

Cutting Dimensions

  • Trim off the unfinished opening from the treat bag
  • Score 2 3/4″ from the bottom of the bag and fold
  • Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Paper is cut 1 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ (ornament holder) – 2″ x 10 1/2″ (star holder) – watch the video for details about varying the width
  • Mossy Meadow cardstock insert measures 4 1/4″ x 4 5/8″
  • Shimmery White cardstock layer for the insert measures 3 1/2″ x 4 3/8″
