How to Braid Paper | Details
The braid adds immense texture to this card so why stop there! I used the Timeless Tropical Bundle’s pineapple die to create a stunning focal point! Not only does this die provide fun details but wait until you see the added technique I used on the foil!
If you look closely at the pineapple base you’ll see a variation of tones. These were created using the Bronze Stampin’ Blends Marker on the Gold Foil. Not only easy but a great way to add an aged and dimension to your die cut images.
Use the direct-to-paper technique for the pineapple stems and you’ll created added interest and depth to the leaves. Watch how easy it is to create both these techniques in today’s video.
Braided Card Idea #2
The braided base can house any image and greeting. This card uses the Hold on to Hope stamp set and the coordinating Cross of Hope dies.
Looks for an easy background? Use Versamark into to create a subtle background using an image from the same stamp set.
Braided Card Idea #3
Whether creating a Mother’s Day theme card, sympathy, get well or anniversary card, this layout will house any image! Simply change up the greeting.
I used the Country Home stamp set and the Stampin’ Blends on Thick Whisper White cardstock for the layer on the card base. A small strip of leftover Neutrals designer paper provides the perfect accent.
How to Braid Paper |Cutting Dimensions
- Cardstock base is cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″

I totally enjoy watching and making your cards….I have only been making cards for about a year now, and Lisa, your cards make me “want” to do better every time I watch your videos….
Thank you, for the way you take the time to show and explain your cards…I get a lot of “Wows” from your cards that I make….you make me feel, as a “beginner”, that Yes, yes I can do that…
Thank you again…
Awww, what a sweet comment, Nancy! Thank you for the kind words. I really love what I do and so glad it shows in what and how I share.
Thank you Lisa on your video on making a Braided card. Especially the Easter card. As always your instructions on your videos are so helpful.
Hi Kathy! So happy you enjoyed this braided technique. It’s always fun to learn a new way to fold our cardstock, too. Thank you for the kind words about my videos. I love what I do and so glad that it shows in what and how I share. Happy stamping!
Hi Lisa. I just finished watching your braided card tutorial. How fun is that! I’ve downloaded the template and now I’m off to my studio to make some cards. Thank you for your excellent demonstration and inspiration.
Hi Sue! I’m so glad you’ve taken the time to download the template. You’ll really enjoy making these braided cards. Thanks for watching.
Hi just love this. Where can I find the template? I would love to try it.
Hi Victoria! You’re in the right place for the template. You scrolled right past it. In this blog post you’ll see a large purple box near the bottom. Read the text and click. It will open it up for you and you can download and save it to your computer. Hope that helps.
Love the card. Was unable to print the template download. Can you please email it to me. Thank you.
Kathleen thanks so much for visiting this video!! This is such a fun card to make!! Here is an updated link for the tempalate:

Hello Lisa, I come from a land down under -to coin a phrase- and I enjoy watching your very helpful videos. I am having difficulty downloading instructions etc (my internet is rather hit or miss), and, therefore was wondering if you could reply to me adding the dimensions of the braided card template. I will continue watching you as you make all those beautiful cards, you really are my inspiration. Have a great day and stay safe.
Hi Sonny! So glad you enjoy what I share. Thank you for watching. There aren’t cutting dimensions for this braided card, hence the template. My best recommendation is to find someone local to you that can print this template for you. Hope that suggestion proves helpful.
Recently I came across your videos on YouTube. I very much enjoy your direct straightforward, concise, and friendly way of presentation. You make it fun to watch videos. And, you have some very nice and fun designs. I viewed your March 23, video yesterday about “braiding” paper. It brought back fun memories from a few years ago of using the incire technique for some of my cards and other items. I really liked the second card you did. Very lovely.
I look forward to more of your videos.
So glad you enjoy what and how I share. Thank you for watching and your kind comment!
Hi Lisa!
I just wanted to say thank you for continuing to provide your many fun and educational videos! You are amazingly talented and inspire so many of us to create works of art to share with others with the intent of spreading happiness, love, support and encouragement. The simple gesture of sharing home made cards goes a long way to let others know you are thinking of them and that you care – which is so important especially during this time when the Corona Virus pandemic is so drastically effecting everyone in one way or another.
I hope to sign up as a demonstrator with you as my up line very soon. I certainly look forward to learning more creative ideas from you, and wish you much continued success! Please stay healthy and safe, and know that I sincerely appreciate your willingness to continue teaching and encouraging others to create and spread joy through paper crafting and card making!
Hi Sherri! You’re so welcome! I’m thrilled you’re enjoying what and how I share. I love what I do and glad it shows. I’d love to add you to my stamping team. We have so much fun! I provide a lot of support and inspiration, too! Stay well!
Hi Lisa,
These cards are beautiful and such a great idea for creating that braid on the cards. I noticed on the Easter card that the floral die cut piece over the cross had two colors. How do you separate those colors when the stamp is all in one? I haven’t been very successful doing that so I’m wondering what is the best way to do that? Hope everyone in your family is well during this pandemic.
Hi Veronica! Thanks for stopping by. I’ve got a video teaching how to get two colors on one stamp. You can view it here: https://youtu.be/cxErE1AQtxQ Hope that helps!
Do you do anything to send a card with the tied burlap through the mail ????? it seems like it would be caught in the postal machines. I SO enjoyed your video. I used to teach the woven edge in my tea bag folding classes at a
local store years ago. I LOVE your template and easy instructions. I don’t remember mine coming out as nice as
yours 🙂
Hi Donette! I’m careful to make sure that I add a piece of cardboard over the top of my card for mailing to protect it. Thank you so much for stopping by to watch!
Lisa, Thank you so much for sharing! This is fantastic! I saw a braided card and wondered how they did that and while looking for something else on Pinterest, I came across you. WOW! What a God Send!! The cards are beautiful, I do like the extra swipping on the second pineapple card you showed us. They are all beautiful and I can not believe how easy the card will be to make. I enjoyed listening to you, like the others, I agree you have a wonderful voice to listen to, your precise and thank you for not doing excessive talking (till the end, lol).
I made all my cards for the year the end of December and now I can’t mail them, lol! live in Costa Rica, so we are not mailing anything from here, it usually takes 6-8 weeks for mail to get here or to the states and extremely expensive (I usually wait till someone is going to the states and have them mail cards for me).
All incoming/outgoing airlines are suspended. If we leave, we will loose our residency, which cost thousands to get and will not be allowed to enter back in until they lift the restrictions due to they are not allowing any tourist or foreigners in.
I don’t mind being here, although, we can’t get to family members if they get really ill (would have to do a 14 day quarantine anyway). Right now, my brother is in the hospital, was not Covid-19, thankfully, however, it may be lymphoma cancer. It took over 6 days for the Covid-19 test results to come in (he’s in GA), so now it’s a waiting game again, for the biopsy to come back. Please pray for him. (Sorry I talked so long). PS. I do have a SU demonstrator.
Hi Linda! Happy you enjoyed this card. Prayers for your brother!
Lisa,
Thank you for a very informative video. I don’t do the stamping but I love quilling and can’t wait to try the braided card with my quilling. Again thank you!
Hi Donna! Quilling is something I did years ago and really enjoyed it. I know your card will be stunning. So glad you enjoyed the video and template. Thanks for stopping by!
I absolutely loved this card idea and appreciate the template. If I am quarantined, I may as well work on something new… Thanks for Sharing…
You are most welcome, Cookie! Enjoy!
I would like to thank you Lisa for the quick response to my email tonight. You are a great demonstrator. I can follow everything so easy. I’m so looking forward to be making some braided cards. Also I’m new to your products. I’m excited to order some things. Thank you for your love of card making and teaching, and sharing.
Sincerely, Terry Tucker
Hi Terry! You’re most welcome. Happy to help and thank you for stopping by!
Lisa, love the video. I am unable to download or save the pdf from my iPad or iPhone. Yes, I am signed in to google. 🙂 Is it OK to ask you to send the pdf directly to me?
Hi Pam! So happy that you’ve enjoyed the card. Unfortunately it’s your phone/iPad settings that won’t allow you to download it so emailing it to you won’t resolve that problem. I know this since thousands have successfully downloaded it. My best suggestion is to search the internet for a resolution using your exact device. And when all else fails, do what I do, I ask a 20-something year old. Technology can be so challenging. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you Lisa for sharing your ideas. I am so excited to create the braided cards for many occasions. This card is so beautiful and unique.
Hi Kathryn! I’m so glad you’re enjoying what I share. Thanks for stopping by!

Gayle this is such a fun card to make!! Have fun giving this card a try!! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed your braiding video. Tried it on my own and did it close to your instructions. Didn’t cut the first one off. Looks so much better your way. Glad I watched this to find out how to do it correctly. Really like those mini dots need to order some.
Pat so happy to have you visit this video!! This is such a fun technique!! Give it another try while watching and stopping video with each step!! Have fun giving this card another try!!
Lisa, I love the braided cards. I am a card maker and have quite a few Stampin’ Up products. I haven’t bought in a long time though. I have been wanting new catalogs but don’t have a demonstrator. In watching this video I had an idea and am trying to work out in my head how to make it come together properly. The idea is having the braiding in the middle of the front and also start from both top and bottom and meet in the middle or start in the middle and work up and down and put the focal point in the center of the braided strip. I don’t have a printer to print out the template and trying to visualize how to put it together is driving me crazy. When I get an idea I can’t put it aside till I can actually complete the project. Any advise or help you could give would be greatly appreciated. The card I am envisioning is stunning and I need to make it come to life. I don’t know if you will get this reference but all I keep hearing is “Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, Your my only hope.” Sorry my geekness is coming out. But as I said any help would be greatly appreciated. From Central New York.
Melissa thank you so much for visiting this video!! I suggest you re-play the video and stop with each step to stamp along with me! Here is a link to follow and I would be happy to send you the current catalogs: **Request Catalog** https://lisasstampstudio.com/product/current-catalogs
