Ohhhh, I’ve got a treat for you today on teaching you how to stencil cards the easy way! It will take your greeting cards to a different level. Think it’s difficult? It’s not! You can learn to stencil cards step by step with this tutorial.

This easy card making ideas uses one ink color – black! Pair this technique with a die to create the perfect mask for this stencil card. Don’t have a die? Wait until you see my alternate handmade card idea that uses a punch.

How to Stencil Cards | Details

For this stencil card technique you’ll need a stamp with a coordinating die (or a punch – see idea #2 below!). The die creates the perfect “mask” for this image while stenciling the background.

The Basic Patterns Masks (aka “stencils”) include four different designs. I’ve shared all four designs in today’s video. With patterns for every type of card, you’ll be stenciling simple card images for dramatic results.

The bold greetings from the Seriously the Best stamp set are perfect for this card. While providing the perfect statement it doesn’t take away from the blended stencil background.

Blending Brushes

On a challenge from a stamping friend, I purchased an inexpensive set of blending brushes for this technique. The soft bristles are perfect for graduated blending. This package includes 5 different colored handles allowing you to use one brush for a single color family. I share several tips about these brushes in today’s video.

And while I enjoyed using these brushes for this specific technique they aren’t a substitute for my Sponge Daubers. Daubers provide intense color in specific areas and are user friendly with finger tip control.

How to Stencil Cards | Idea #2 – Use a Punch

If you don’t own a coordinating die to your stamp image, select an image with a coordinating punch. Use the exact same process demonstrated in today’s video for flawless results.
