Want to know how to make an interactive card like a boss?! This fun fold is easier to make than you think AND I’ve got a free template for you too!
Learning to make an interactive card can appear daunting but this card isn’t difficult. While there are 4 individual pieces, they come together seamlessly to create a fun peek-a-boo shutter card – perfect for showcasing a greeting or small image.
Today’s fun fold card uses the Ornate Style stamp set and my alternate sample uses Under My Umbrella. Here are two different looks for a fun shutter card.
I’ve included pictures, cutting dimensions and supplies below. Be sure to scroll down to see them.

Interactive Card Details
The large, detailed floral image in the Ornate Style stamp set doesn’t have to be colored. While the outline image is perfect for those that love to color, you can create gorgeous cards by stamping in colored ink. I’ll show you how to use darker colors and layer greetings for a dramatic impact in today’s video.
My favorite part of card making isn’t only the construction of the card but the accessories! I’ve used the Holiday Rhinestones on this card to highlight in the subtle green in the designer paper. Stampin’ Up!’s color coordination makes creating a breeze!
While opening the card, the receiver will squeal at the interactive shutter opening. It’s a card they’ll be opening and closing time and time again – because it’s that cool! 😎
Interactive Card – Idea #1
The Layering Circles Dies are perfect for this card. The graduated sizes allow you to die cut the opening in the center panel and create a larger circle for the image behind the shutter opening. Don’t miss the tips about positioning the panels and greeting that are shared in today’s video!
Instead of a greeting, consider using small images for this surprise opening. Balloons, animals or something simple and bold will all work well.
Interactive Card – Idea #2
The adorable Under My Umbrella stamp sets coordinates with the Umbrella Builder Punch. Those yellow boots provide the perfect contrast to the Highland Heather and Magenta Madness!
Did you notice the small rain drops in the background? I used the Highland Heather ink pad, stamped off a shade of ink on scratch paper to reduce the color, then stamped them randomly behind the greeting.
Instead of a diamond focal point, like the first card, this card uses a single strip of cardstock as a “bridge” for the gate fold opening. Consider various shapes using dies and punches, too.
Aren’t these colors bright and happy? I’m sure you know at least one person who would love to receive this cheerful card. Download the template below and give this fun fold a try.

Lisa, this is the best tutorial I have seen for this type card! I have saved several but they were not clear and I never made them. I love both of the cards but the bright umbrella is my favorite. I will definitely be making one of these shutter cards. I did however notice your raindrops on the front are upside down 🙂 . Hope you are surviving your packing and your move will be smooth. I live in an over 55 community and teach a card class in the clubhouse. It is very well received and is the longest running event there. Don’t get too stressed out with the move!
Debbie this is such a fun card to make!! I am thrilled you will be making on of them!! Thank you for your kind wishes!
Thank you Lisa for wonderful and easy to understand instructions! You are the best! I thought the shutter card would be too hard to do. I love the Magenta card the best. I will be making these soon.
Just a note for you…..on the first page of the template the image is shown vertical but in the video it is horizontal, which I believe is correct.
