Card Making Ideas | Embossing Folders on Vellum
Use your embossing folders to create textured backgrounds on vellum! I’ve used the Thanks & Hello Embossing Folders (Hello) on this Dahlia card. This is a great way to get your feet wet with vellum without a lot of fancy extras! The Delicate Dahlia stamp set is just one of the FREE products offered during Sale-A-Bration which begins tomorrow!
Once the vellum has been embossed the impressions will provide gorgeous etched white details! These natural highlights take an ordinary sheet of vellum to a textured, brilliant background they can’t resist touching!
Don’t miss my tip in the video about using 3D embossing folders. This simple tip will provide perfect impressions without tearing.
Card Making Ideas | Heat Embossing on Vellum
The elegant look of vellum is best known for its use in wedding invitations, typically placed between the invitation and the reception card. Vellum has so many uses and my second one features how to heat emboss it!
Whether using a large background stamp as I have here (Daisy Garden), or individual images, consider heat embossing using white, black, copper, silver or gold powder. I opted to show off this heat embossed image by creating a frame using the Scalloped Contour & Stitched Rectangle Dies. Adding the frame on Mini Dimensionals allows for a 3D effect that shows off this embossed image perfectly!
Card Making Ideas | Coloring on Vellum
Whether using dye-based markers, as I’ve done here, or alcohol markers, you can color on your vellum to create a ‘stained glass’ look. My favorite preference is to heat emboss an image (Festive Foliage) first then color on the backside of the vellum. The opaque finish of this paper allows the colors to appear softened – a great way to use those darker markers!
I added a heat embossed greeting, a layer of Gold Foil and the new Mini Catalog Gold Holly Leaves for extra pizzazz. Can a Christmas card ever have too much sparkle?
Card Making Ideas | Mirrored Image on Vellum
If you’re looking for a real WOW, try the mirrored image technique on vellum! This one is super easy! Stamp the image to mirror what you’ll be placing above it. But be sure to let the vellum dry. Then flip the vellum over to mirror the image above it. Looking for adhesive tips for vellum? I’ve covered that in the video as well.
