Easy Handmade Cards | Masking Tape
Whether using household masking tape or my favorite Delicate Surface Tape HERE, you’ll love this technique for a variety of reasons. Add a variety of colors in seconds to a piece of cardstock. Select your detailed image and stamp! Die cut and assemble. It’s that easy!
Be sure to watch the video about tips for creating a ‘tab’ for the tape to help keep your hands clean, tips about changing colors and much more! The Simply Succulents Bundle (stamp set + coordinating dies) are perfect for this technique. Here’s a whole new way to add color if you’re pressed for time or don’t like to color.
Masking Tape Idea #2
The best part of using this technique is that you can make patterns or ‘strips’ of color, too. Use one or more colors to create vertical or horizontal lines This technique is perfect for landscapes; mountains, beach scenes or to stamp solid images like I’ve done here.
If you look closely you’ll notice a splatter of black on the image and the card base. That’s an additional, quick technique that requires nothing more than your Stampin’ Write dye-based marker. Click HERE to learn how. A little splatter add lots of texture to a card in seconds – no experience required.
Easy Handmade Cards | Paper Piecing
Detailed images often make you consider markers, whether dye-based or alcohol-based. Many love to watercolor with pencils or a brush but have you considered piecing your image?
Stamp your image on cardstock and again on designer paper. Using your scissors cut out a bold area and adhere the designer paper piece right over the top of the stamped image. Add coordinating designer paper to the card base for a clean and coordinated look you can achieve in minutes!
Paper Piecing Idea #2
And if you love “little details” you’ll love the idea of piecing together clothing and detailed areas like bag surrounding the Christmas tree. The jacket on this image was pieced using the Sale-A-Bration designer paper Peaceful Prints. This designer paper is one of the FREE selections during Sale-A-Bration now through September 30. CLICK HERE for details about Sale-A-Bration.
Designer Papers with prints and patterns are a great and easy way to provide texture to your images. The best way to achieve the paper piecing effect is to be sure to cut the stamped image on the designer paper right on the stamped outline. When mirroring it to the original image on the cardstock the lines will allow for perfect placement without them appearing too thick.
Easy Handmade Cards | Spotlight Technique
Snowbuddy Better is the perfect choice for the spotlight technique! This detailed stamp might deter you from using it if you’re short on time but focusing on a small area to ‘spotlight’ is a great way to add a little color and texture to the image.
I chose to add an additional layer behind the spotlight for added color. Scroll down to see the next card for another alternative.
Spotlight Technique Idea #2
Square cards are fun to create when you want quick and simple. With a little less space to fill, images that fit into a smaller square for the card base are the perfect focal point!
This card uses the stamp set From All of Us and another great option for this technique. Unlike the first card, this spotlight is layered without an additional circle layer. The Calypso Coral cardstock layer for the image and the colored Baker’s Twine add additional pops of color to this overall simple card.
Wondering how I colored that twine? Use your Stampin’ Blends Markers or click HERE for another idea!
Easy Handmade Cards | Bubble Wrap
Don’t throw away that bubble wrap. Besides popping those bubbles as a stress reliever pastime, those inflated bubbles create the most interesting background. Ink it up, turn your cardstock facedown on top of it and transfer the impression. This is a technique the kids will love as well. Perfect for making your own backgrounds for gift wrap, gift bags and tags, too!
The Nuts About Squirrels stamp set (Mini Catalog page 49) WILL have you nuts about squirrels. This adorable stamp set includes both outline (if you like to color!) and solid (fill images) if you don’t! Adorable expressions can be added to any themed card and work famously with this bubble wrap background technique.
If this squirrel looks ‘fuzzy’ it’s for good reason. I stamp the solid/fill image using Crumb Cake ink then stamped it again with Early Espresso (stamped off once to lighten the shade). Doubling up on the colors created a slight ‘blur’ and texture.
