The beauty of cards made with paper scraps is not only the use of those scraps but how quickly cards can be created. These easy card making ideas are sure to have you running to your stamp table to create.
The original idea for this scrappy technique for card making was the brainstorm of Bruno Bertucci, the husband of Australian Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, Kylie. Aside from being our good friends, their use of paper scraps always have me in awe! Be sure to head over to Kylie’s YouTube channel HERE and subscribe. Her sparkly personality and incredible cards will certainly be a bright spot while creating.

Paper Craft Scraps | Throughout the Year
Biggest tip: begin with a larger piece of cardstock so you can trim it down to create your layer. Don’t think that paper scraps only means cardstock. If you’re like me, you have a stash of leftover designer paper, too! While this background technique is quite popular with a black layer, don’t miss mixing things up with a complimentary colored cardstock that peaks through those strips.
The right background provides a stunning card so don’t cover it! I kept all my cards simple with a greeting and or small image. You won’t want to miss all 7 cards. Keep scrolling!
Something about this card reminds me of Santa’s elves. Maybe it’s the simple and traditional color palette or perhaps the small angled strips. Regardless, this joyful card is easily complimented by a heat embossed greeting. White embossing powder is a fantastic way to jazz up a card…and it’s easy! Learn how to heat emboss by clicking HERE.
After I trimmed the strips I ended up with a full row that I simply couldn’t waste! I adhered it to the bottom inside of my card for a fun border without any extra effort!
Holiday cards aren’t just Christmas. With Valentine’s Day not long after Christmas you’ll need something for those ‘loves’ in your life. Our 31st wedding anniversary is at the end of December and I created this card for Bob the Builder. Don’t let those heart stamps and dies go to waste! They work for all kinds of cards all year long.
Spring forward a few more months and we’ll be back in Spring – and Easter! This pastel colored card could easily be a birthday or sympathy card with a change in the greeting.
Butterflies are always in ‘style’ as is the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle! This one background image includes multiple butterflies which makes creating quick and easy. Stamp it once and use the one-piece die to cut them all out simultaneously. Save the extras for future projects and cut down on prep for those last minute cards.
Paper Craft Scraps | Through Life’s Seasons
Throughout the entire year card makers find themselves creating cards for various reasons. Get well, miss you, just because, congratulations and much more. Oftentimes these themes are overlooked so I wanted to provide you with a few additional ideas to use all year long. Cheerful colors can be a great pick-me-up in someone’s mailbox!
Rainbows are everywhere this year because we all love the colors! Use that same concept on your cards for stunning results. And don’t be afraid to bring in some quick-witted greetings for fun! I love the greetings in the Lighthearted Lines stamp set.
Paper Craft Scraps | Mosaic Layout
It wasn’t long after Bruno created the scrappy layout that Kylie shared how to use the scraps in another fashion – mosaics! It’s brilliant and lots of fun. This one takes extra glue so be sure to watch my video for all my tips to make your first mosaic card a success.
The most frequently created card in my studio are birthday cards. Thanks to my sizable Italian family we have at least one birthday per month! I loved the finished look of this card because I can use it for anyone despite gender or age. Whip out a half dozen of these in assembly-line fashion and you’ll have them on hand when you need a last minute card.
