If you love the look of braided paper you’re going to enjoy these card techniques that use designer paper to create twisted ribbon borders.
Patterned paper is easy to incorporate into handmade cards and this technique provides the perfect use for those designer paper scraps. While there’s the look of lattice, you’ll find that this technique is easier than that. Zigzag strips of to create braided card borders and even card backgrounds. Twisted Ribbon Cards | Details
Gorgeous designer paper creates intriguing backgrounds and the Sun Prints Designer Papers are perfect for this technique. Stampin’ Up!’s double-sided papers provide a huge array of patterns and colors for endless card ideas.
A few tick marks on your cardstock allows for perfect placement of the designer paper pieces that make up this braided or lattice pattern. Choose to use one paper (see Gina’s samples below) or mix and match as I’ve done here.
The Sending Smiles stamp set includes simple and abstract flowers that are perfect for heat embossing. I chose to white embossing powder for the vellum cardstock which provides a striking appearance, yet doesn’t deter from the twist ribbon technique.
Full of Love
Stampin’ Up!’s carefully thought out process in coordination is second to none. The Full of Love stamp set coordinates perfectly with the Tea Boutique Designer Series Paper!
A simple tone-on-tone stamped image behind the tag doesn’t distract from the greeting or the technique yet provides subtle coordination to the patterned paper.
I chose to add the colored image to the inside of this card and selected the colors from the designer paper.
Twisted Ribbon Cards | Amazing Year
The Full of Love and Amazing Year stamp sets have coordinating artwork. Mix and match the images and greetings and you’ll expound on your purchase!
Choosing a fun break-away front for this card allowed for a simple fun fold design and a lower focal point for this technique. Do you love simple fun folds? Then keep scrolling! We’ve got more!
Artfully Composed Background
I experimented with this background using the same technique and wider strips of designer paper. Be sure to keep one pattern simple and use a colorful and bold paper for the other. It’s a great way to play up simple images like leaves.
Sadly the Artfully Layered Bundle (stamp set + coordinating dies) is retiring on July 1. You have until June 30 to add these incredible products plus the coordinating designer paper to your Last Chance Products shopping list. Come July 1, they are gone forever.
Twisted Ribbon Cards | Gina’s Samples
Gina’s card layouts and designs are amazing and to kick off her inspiration, check out this Apple Harvest card! I didn’t give this Bundle a second look until her card and now it’s on my wish list!
Look closely and you’ll notice that Gina only used one direction of designer paper for all her cards. Simplified and still stunning!
The Apple Harvest Bundle (stamp set + coordinating dies) are available on July 1 in the new Mini Catalog. Even better, July 1 kicks off Stampin’ Up!’s semi-annual Sale-A-Bration! For every $50 in product that you purchase (before shipping & tax) you’ll select an exclusive Sale-A-Bration product for FREE! And you won’t want to miss adding the FREE Sale-A-Bration selection of the Rings of Love Designer Paper to that list.
Alcohol-based Stampin’ Blends Markers make anyone look like a professional. These easy-to-use markers provide for flawless coverage. I have an entire playlist on YouTube with tips and tricks for using these alcohol-based markers. CLICK HERE to watch.
Heron Habitat Fun Fold
This offset gate fold is the perfect style for this twisted paper technique. Just like the Apple Harvest card, Gina opted to use just one angle of designer paper on a white background to create this border.
The belly band keeps the cards closed for mailing and provides a super “unveil” for the recipient. Gina used the belly band to hold her image and greeting, too.
Brewed For You
Do you know a beer or wine lover? If so, then the new Brewed For You Bundle is perfect. Coordinating stamps and dies include both outline images and two-step options for quick cards.
There’s a single angle of designer paper on this card as well which is perfectly showcased by a simple designer paper background!
Yet to Party?
I never gave this stamp set another look but it was near the top of Gina’s wish list. Here she’s incorporated these new Mini Catalog products (July 1) together. I’ll admit, it wasn’t a likely combination but it turned out stunning!
The Yeti to Party stamp set, Snowflake Specialty Vellum and the Whimsical Woodland 3D Embossing Folders are available on July 1. In fact, the entire new Mini Catalog is LOADED with amazing products you won’t want to miss. CLICK HERE to read about my ordering rewards program!
