Creating DIY Christmas cards is a wonderful tradition shared by many paper crafters. With thousands of cards and ideas it might be challenging to decide where to start, especially if you’re making dozens. Today’s video provides several ideas using card layout ideas.
Card layouts are also known as a card sketch which provides the basic ‘mapping’ of your cardstock pieces. Whether looking for Christmas cards or fall card making ideas, I certain that this card sketch will help get you started. Don’t miss the free project sheet I’ve provided below. DIY Christmas Cards | Peace to You
Heat embossing is synonymous with Christmas cards. Whether you choose gold or silver, these metallic finishes provide a classy finish to a simple card.
The Peace to You stamp set includes 6 cling stamps; 2 large images and 3 greetings that resonate the feeling and meaning of Christmas. You’ll find this stamp set on page 41 of the Mini Catalog.
I’ve experimented with different widths of designer paper and found that 3/8″ works well for just about any focal point. But don’t miss mixing and matching patterns or even cardstock for different looks.
DIY Christmas Cards | Spruced Up
The Spruced Up Bundle (stamp set + coordinating dies) on page 13 of the Mini Catalog have bold and traditional images. The dies to this Bundle are extra special since they provide outline images that can be used separately or with the solid images with or without the stamps.
While pink is not a traditional Christmas color, the Snowflake Vellum provides a wintery feel. Mixed with rhinestones and the silver heat embossed ornament you have a striking and simple card in minutes.
Between the layers of the designer paper you’ll find strips of Silver Foil. It’s a great way to play up the ’empty’ spaces to add a bit more pizzazz. It’s also a great way to use up your scraps!
DIY Christmas Cards | Fond of Autumn
Love a good, nostalgic fall stamp set? Look no further than the Fond of Autumn Bundle (stamp set + coordinating dies) on page 52 of the Mini Catalog. This 11-piece photopolymer stamp set is a winner on its own but the dies provide even more flexibility.
The coordinating Autumn Bouquet Dies die cut the large greenery image into several pieces which allows you to use them in smaller areas. I took it a step further and cut away the pieces I wanted to add some color to my greeting.
Embossing Folders add texture to a card in seconds and the Leaf Fall 3D Embossing Folder doesn’t disappoint. The cascading images are perfect for this simple layout!
