Beginner card making is a fun adventure, but it can also be overwhelming. Once you’ve gathered your ink, stamps, and paper, you might be wondering what to do next. I’m here to help! Today I’m sharing a card sketch that you can use to create your own handmade cards.

This card sketch provides inspiration and creates four designer paper layers to make a variety of cards. Handmade cards are wonderful gifts, and using an array of greetings with Stampin’ Up! products makes for a quick and impressive gift.

The hybrid embossing folder provides detailed texture to the stamped images then the coordinating die cuts it out. Quick and easy!

card layout

This layout calls for a strip of cardstock, ribbon, designer series paper or in my case, glimmer paper, to separate the quadrilateral section.

Two Cuts, Four Cards

You’ll make a mark at 1″ on all four sides of the 6″ x 6″ designer paper. Using a paper trimmer or a ruler and a pair of scissors, you’ll cut diagonally from each mark to make four quadrants.

If your designer paper doesn’t have a directional pattern, you can use it in a variety of corners on a cardstock layer. I’ve done this on the card shown here.

Best Card Layout | Darling Dinos

Among the Online Exclusives you’ll find this adorable dinosaur Bundle. The images are simple to color using markers or pencils.

easy birthday card

One of my quadrants uses a piece of cardstock that’s been embossed using an embossing folder. If you’re new to card making then consider another piece of coordinating designer paper or a complimentary color cardstock for this section.

easy birthday card to make

I used Baker’s Twine attached with a Dimensional to the back of each balloon to provide added interest to the card. Consider embellishments like rhinestones and sequins versus images if you’re just beginning. Keep your new card making hobby simple and enjoyable.

Sweetly Scripted

Speaking simple, this card is a simple version of this card layout. No images were just used, just a greeting and pretty designer paper.

quick and easy layout design

Instead of an embossed quadrant I opted for another pattern of designer paper, separated by a strip of another pattern. These papers all come from the same package called Toadstool Gardens. This paper is FREE with a $60 net order during Stampin’ Up!’s largest sale of the year “Sale-A-Bration” from now through February.
