One of the most difficult handmade cards to create is a condolence card. But it’s also the most touching. I know firsthand. We lost my stepdad in early March and the hundreds of cards we received reminded us how loved and prayed for we are.
Among the cards we received, included were several cross card designs. All of which inspired today’s video and samples. Whether making this pop up cross card as a religious card, sympathy card, get well soon card or an Easter card, I think you’ll agree that this handmade creation will touch someone deeply, as it did our family.

Pop Up Cross Sympathy Card | Delightful Wishes
As I created this card I used all the same designer paper, which you’ll see in my second set of photos below. I then realized that the die cut flowers didn’t stand out well so opted to change the designer paper in the areas of the cross to make them more predominant.

The Delightful Floral Bundle (stamps + coordinating dies) are stunning! Best of all, they are perfect for small or large decorating areas. The flowers can be stamped and die cut or you can create a flower from the dies themselves.

I opted for designer paper in the narrow areas of the pop up which provide a beautiful side view. But don’t miss my last card sample where I’ve omitted the pattern paper in this space. I think you’ll agree it’s equally as pretty.

Instead of placing my greeting and images in the center of the cross, I opted to place them at the bottom. This allowed the beautiful designer papers and the pop up feature of this fancy fold card to be the focal point.

Floral Cross Option
This was actually the first card I created then quickly realized that the flowers I had die cut (used on the first card) were lost on the designer paper.

Allowing the pattern paper to be the ‘star’ of the card, I opted for the greeting near the bottom with a single flower to bring in the coordination. A much simpler option that works equally as well. I think you’ll agree it’s just as pretty as the previous one.

Pop Up Cross Sympathy Card | Unbounded Love
This card style shows off designer series paper so perfectly! This pattern from the Mediterranean Blooms felt perfect for this cross.

Once again I chose to put the images near the bottom. This time I used the beautiful Mixed Florals Dies for the elongated leaves.

The greeting came from the Unbounded Love stamp set and I used the Many Messages dies to cut it out. The Many Messages dies can be easily overlooked since it’s one cluster of die shapes but be sure to watch the video where I share how to effectively use this one die for any single greeting.

Thoughtful Moments
If you’re wondering where the stamps are, you’re right! This card only uses designer series paper and dies. The Thoughtful Moments Dies are a hybrid combination of embossing and die cutting, all in one! There are 10 greeting/dies you won’t want to miss adding to your crafting stash!

Gold Foil brings the sparkle of this designer paper to the forefront of this card.

Unlike the first cards, the narrow sides of this card do not include designer paper. With the die cut images and gorgeous designer paper I didn’t think it needed it. What do you think? Leave me a comment below.
