I’d think we’d all agree handmade birthday cards are the most popular greeting card we create. With that in mind, I wanted to share three easy birthday cards, each using a separate card sketches. Card sketches are also known as a card layout. I’m excited to share each of these easy card design layouts with you.
Where to begin and how to begin is often the biggest question I’m asked. I love starting with a card template/card layout which is comprised of where the elements of your card will be placed. The best part, you can use any stamps, ink and paper that you’d like. Keep your stamping simple or gussy it up.

Easy Birthday Cards | Happy Hibiscus
Grab those designer paper scraps and put them to good use using the layout. Small strips can be used in a multitude of ways to create visual interest.

I allow the colors in my pattern paper to dictate the colors of my images. Here I’ve used Lemon Lolly and Daffodil Delight for the two-step flowers. Be sure to watch the videos for some great tips on aligning these images.

If you’re struggling on where to put a greeting, consider stamping it on a die cut or punched label. I’ve used the circle die from the Happy Hibiscus Dies to house the greeting.

Easy Birthday Cards | Sunrise Sailing
A simple die cut opening can be placed anywhere on your card layer. I chose a circle for this layout which holds the sailboat perfectly!

If you’re looking for a great a great masculine card, the Sunrise Sailing Bundle (stamps + coordinating dies) are a definite must. Best of all, the dies work perfectly with other stamps which expounds on your purchase.

The Everyday Skies designer series paper includes beautiful tones of blues and sunsets which makes it perfect for those outdoorsy cards. However, I opted to turn the paper upside down to use the blue (sky) portion for the water. Don’t miss the demonstration for this card. I’ve included lots of tips.

Darling Dinos
This layout is one of my favorites. Use various size circles (or squares, diamonds, etc.) to create a random background. By mixing the colors you’ll have an interesting background.

Among the mass of birthday cards I create each year, I need a dozen or so for kids. That’s where the Darling Dinos Bundle was a great addition for me.

I colored the dinosaur using Stampin’ Blends Markers. These alcohol-based markers are my favorite coloring medium since there’s no streaking. Shading is easy with both a light and dark of each color making the finished project look professional. If you’re new to Stampin’ Blends Markers you’ll find an entire playlist on how to use them on my YouTube channel HERE.
