This best Ikea Kallax hack with helpful cardstock storage is the second video in my craft room tour series. If you missed the first video you can watch it HERE.
Today I’m focusing specifically on cardstock storage using the Ikea Kallax units. I’ve used a variety of Kallax units to create a custom storage space. You’ll hear me refer to them as 4×4, 1×4 and 2×2, simply meaning 4 cubes across and 4 down, etc. Don’t miss all the shopping links I’ve included below for the products in this video. I’ve also linked the Stamp N Storage cardstock/paper inserts that fit perfectly in the Ikea Kallax unit.
Be sure to scroll down to see the pictures and my tips about the cardstock placement in relation to a window.

Ikea Kallax Cardstock Details
Pictured below is a 4×4 unit and a 1 x4 unit added to the top. As explained in the video, Bob the Builder, bolted the two sections together for stability and bolted the entire until to the wall. (I nicknamed him security Sam!)
I used Stamp N Storage inserts specifically designed for 12″ x 12″ in the Ikea Kallax units. Don’t miss the amazing tip in today’s video on how the 8 1/2″ x 11″ cardstock fits in these 12″. I must admit, Bob the Builder is brilliant! The video also includes tips about designer paper both in 12″ x 12″ and 6″ x 6″ sizes. And if you’re skeptical, like I was, about storing your cardstock and designer paper vertically, I’ll address that too.
My craft room has a large window that faces west so I was careful to avoid the direct sunlight. We situated the Ikea Kallax unit so it faces north to avoid any sun damage to the cardstock. I live in Florida and the afternoon sun is always warm so I close the blinds to help keep the room cool, especially in the summer months. Plan your layout carefully using the Ikea Planning Tools. The Planning Tools allows you to choose the products you like and situate them to get a great 3D visual layout.
The ceiling in my craft room is vaulted and after the installation of this Ikea Kallax unit, there was an awkward amount of ‘dead space’ above it. Knowing it would be visible in videos, I opted to decorate it. Who doesn’t love a functional and pretty craft room?!

Ikea Kallax Cardstock Scrap Storage
Wondering where I keep my cardstock scraps? The white Ikea bins shown below hold accordion file folders to hold scraps of each color individually. I created a separate video, going into more detail about this storage system, which can be found HERE.

Oh BEAUITFUL Lisa , so clean and neat , thanks for sharing, lots a great idea,
Hugs Frenchie ♥️
Hi Frenchiee! Thank you! I’m really enjoying this revised space.
Thank you Lisa for your wonderful tour of your beautiful craft room. I also have the 4×4 Kallax. I like how you added the 1×4 unit on top. I was thinking about doing that also. Thank you too for the links to IKEA and Stamp n Storage.
Hi Lynn! So glad you enjoyed the video and links. Happy shopping!
Perfect presentation
Aww, thank you, Helen! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Lisa, I just viewed your card stock storage video and I love what you have done. I would like to set up something like that in my craft room. I went to the Stamp N Storage website and the price they had on the 12 slot insert was something like $81. Is that just for ONE unit? I could not find anywhere that it said how many, so I am assuming just one unit, but hoping I am wrong. I would appreciate your input on this if you would be so kind.
Hi Carol! Yes, that price is for one unit. Stamp-n-Storage is amazing quality, birch plywood that has been sanded and ready to use. It can be painted or stained as well. It’s incredibly sturdy and you’ll NEVER need another cardstock storage solution. I took the plunge and invested in them, after a long time saving up. You won’t be sorry! Thank you so much for coming by and for watching the video.
Thanks for getting back to me Lisa. I guess I need to start saving my pennies…and nickles…etc. I can get a couple at a time, but, like many of our demonstrators, I am retired and on a limited income, so it will take a little time but I will get there. I really enjoy your videos and your cards are lovely. Thanks so much for what you do and you inspiring ideas. Blessings to you and Bob the Builder!
Carol, saving for this storage system is worth every dime! You won’t be disappointed, I promise! Thanks for the kind words. I love what I do and I hope it shows in how and what I share. HUGS
